| About the Tillamook County Futures Council |
In 1997, the Tillamook County Commissioners formed the Futures Council to help the community develop a citizen-based, long-range Strategic Vision for Tillamook County. As a non-political citizen advisory council to the Commissioners, the Futures Council serves as a steward of the County Vision.
Since its inception, the Council’s strategic visioning work has supported numerous organizations, agencies and projects.
“As part of setting our strategic vision for our district, the Futures Council data is used for guiding fiscal and curricular decisions on a regular basis. For example, the data has provided us clear targets for our natural resource education project.”
– Randy Shield, Superintendent, Tillamook School District

“Throughout the annual budget process, I used the Futures Council benchmarks update to lobby for priorities. The benchmarks helped identify those areas in which we are on the right track and those where we need to put more emphasis, like county roads.”
– Mark Labhart, Tillamook County Commissioner
Life in Tillamook County has changed significantly since its citizens developed the County Vision in 1998. Over the years since the initial Strategic Vision was introduced, Benchmarks were adopted by the Tillamook County Futures Council and used to assess and monitor the effectiveness of strategies as well as progress towards achieving the goals of the Vision.
To achieve a better future for all of us, it is essential that we look ahead to identify trends and their potential impact on the community. In 2007, the Futures Council embarked on the ambitious process of updating the County’s Strategic Vision in order to help the Board of County Commissioners and the community at large identify and plan for the many challenges our County will face over the next several years. The outcomes of the Council’s Vision process will be used by County leaders to coordinate and prioritize efforts.
